Systemic Special Education Support was started by Sowmya Kumar in 2017. With over 40 years of experience in education, specifically in special education, Sowmya is passionate about making sure that schools are proactive and preventive in meeting all students' needs, that students with disabilities are accurately identified, and that they are appropriately served by knowledgeable, caring professionals.
Sowmya has worked as a teacher of students with significant disabilities, an educational diagnostician, a director of special services, an education specialist with a regional education service center, and assistant superintendent of special education in a large urban school district.
In her role as a consultant, Sowmya wants to be a thought partner with districts and charter schools that want to improve their services to students with disabilities and students that are struggling to learn.
